4 Steps to Consider on Your Journey to Remarriage

For ‘International Widows Day’ we’ve put together 4 steps you should take when looking for a spouse again.

In Islam, remarriage after divorce or the loss of a spouse is not just permissible but encouraged. It’s a path of healing, self-care, and renewed companionship.

4 Steps to Consider:

1. Emotional Readiness: Take time to heal and prepare your heart for this next big chapter.

2. Consultation & Prayer: Seek guidance through Istikhara and trusted advisors. With a backdrop of constantly turning to Allah for guidance, also look to open and maintain communication channels with family members and friends.

3. Legal & Social Awareness: Know the requirements and customs. Look into Remarriage yourself and get a broader understanding of the processes.

4. Choosing a Partner: Look for shared values and goals. Similarities and common ground with your future spouse will go a long way to ease you back into a relationship.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) remarried after the death of his first wife, Khadijah, and his other wives included widows and divorced women. His marriages demonstrate the acceptance and encouragement of remarriage within the Islamic tradition.
